COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies) is a framework created by international professional association ISACA for information technology (IT) management and IT governance. The framework was created to help managers create better integration among business risks, technical issues and control requirements. The components of COBIT include the framework, process descriptions to create a common language for everyone in the organization, control objectives created by management to ensure effective IT business control, an assessment of the maturity of every process, and management guidelines. 

When was COBIT first released?

COBIT was first released in 1996. COBIT 5, the latest version, was released in April 2012. Add-ons for COBIT 5 for information security and assurance were released in December 2012 and April 2013 respectively.
